Trade Fair/ Job Fair for Chinese Food Business
GOOD FOR FOOD, GOOD FOR BUSINESS.

華人餐飲業交流會

We are pleased to report that our first Job/Trade Fair for Food Business event was sucessfully held on the 10th January 2012!
It is a great start to re developing Wai Yin's business links and employment programmes.

There were a good number of people attending, including employers, job seekers and also partners.

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (www.manchesterfire.gov.uk/) gave a talk on the Management of Fire Safety in Catering Business. Bury College (www.burycollege.ac.uk/). attended as our new partner, and made an offer to support apprentices; an offer that interested the employers present. The Health & Safety Executive (http://www.hse.gov.uk/) representataive came to observe, and to gain some knowledge about what the BME Sector are doing to promote Health and Safety.

Other activities included, a Food Safety management update, an Internet cafe where Job Seekers were shown useful websites, Job Vacancies that had been rung in before the event were printed out and passed to the Job Seekers on the day, and their details were passed to the employers, 2 of whom decided to hold preliminary interviews at the event itself.
We are currently analysing the evaluation form but the feedback has been positive with useful suggestions for improvement, which we will follow up. One particular employer said "I've been waiting many years for an event like this,  I find it hard to get good staff who are well trained". The Wai Yin is in an ideal position to help with this, and we need more dialogue with employers to find out how we can make our training as effective as possible.

Some employers expressed the wish for future events to be held, especially on weekends when many more prospective employees would be able to attend.

We hope that it is the start of many other similar events to be held frequently so that we can match more job seekers with employees.
